Acworth, GA is a quiet, quaint town roughly 45 minutes north of Atlanta. From the city limit sign, you see pine trees go on for miles until they reach the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. It has a lake, a vintage downtown and history on every corner. A truly beautiful place in our country, without a doubt. Fennelle and I lived in this place for two years last decade, and I’d go back in a heartbeat.
During three days one March not too many moons ago, my friends and I added our own little piece of history to this metro Atlanta suburb. Not in the way of a street sign, a building dedication or a monument, but in a memory that I assure you will not be soon forgotten.
Actually, on second thought, the mother fucking Acworth city council should put up a monument / statue of Geno Garcia (guy on far left in photo above) for simply gracing this town with his presence. I mean, in a span of 24 hours this guy gave a speech at a nearby university and ended up court side with the San Antonio Spurs GM at a Hawks game in downtown ATL.
He had planned on doing neither of those things.
Honestly, I had so much in mind on what to write here, and trust me when I tell you this is a story that deserves to and will be told in fine detail that you will want to indulge in. However, now I feel obliged to contact Acworth personnel about a statue. Fucked up I even have to ask them to be honest.
I’ll do that and circle back.
Legendary.
